North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue (NHRFR) responded to a five-alarm fire at the Kennedy Furniture store located at 1231 John F. Kennedy Boulevard in North Bergen.
About 30 to 40 companies with 80 to 100 firefighters responded to the fire, which started at approximately 11:30 AM. There were no civilian injuries reported, however a firefighter suffered a minor facial injury and was transported to Hackensack University Medical Center at Palisades for care.
“Our firefighters from North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue as well as those that offered mutual aid did a tremendous job in a difficult situation,” said NHRFR Chief Frank Montagne. “We are fortunate that there were no serious injuries and only one minor injury.”
Mutual aid was received from the Jersey City and Kearny Fire Departments who were assisting on the scene, as well as the Hoboken and Bayonne Fire Departments. North Bergen and Jersey City Emergency Medical Services, North Bergen and Union City Police Departments, and North Bergen and Jersey City Office of Emergency Management were also assisting on scene.
